Knee Treatment in Kernersville

Perhaps your knee pain is just beginning. Maybe you have had it for years and are trying to avoid surgery. Either way, we may have a solution for you. Our unique approach involves a series of comprehensive treatments that put the body back into an optimal position to heal itself. The body knows how to heal, sometimes it just needs a little help.

Knee pain affects more than 30% of the adult population in the United States, accounting for more than 4 million primary care visits annually. Knee Osteoarthritis is one of the most common degenerative conditions in the US. These conditions are not just a product of time and affect every age group.

It is common belief that knee pain is just part of the aging process, but this does not have to be the case. Our bodies are not programmed to just have our joints degenerate away as we age.

Traditional management of knee pain begins with over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS). Advil/Motrin (ibuprofen) and Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) are the most common of these. Unfortunately NSAIDS do nothing to fix the underlying degeneration. As the degeneration worsens, patients often are moved up to prescription NSAIDS like Mobic, Meloxicam or Celebrex. While these medications provide some temporary relief for patients with earlier stages of degeneration, they do little to combat the discomfort patients feel with the progression of their underlying condition. NSAIDS, although frequently taken without second thought, cause over 100,000 hospitalizations and over 16,500 deaths each and every year.

When NSAIDS fail to pacify symptoms of knee pain, steroid injections are given. Many report amazing relief with the first steroid injection they get, but results can fade quickly. Cortisone steroid injections carry with them a list of side effects. Corticosteroid injections themselves can contribute to a more rapid breakdown of the joint. With accelerated breakdown of their knees, patients find that subsequent steroid injections don’t alleviate symptoms.

When medications and steroids stop bringing any relief, patients traveling down the path of traditional knee treatments are often told that there is nothing else that can be done except to have knee surgery.

Our multifaceted treatment approach is designed to address the underlying cause of the pain, rather than just masking symptoms and allowing the condition to progress. Our approach is designed to rehydrate the joint, decrease inflammation, increase range of motion, and promote healing of damaged tissues.
